Spirit aircraft declares emergency after possible bomb threat

Authorities clear plane, police make no arrests

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After investigating a report that a passenger on Spirit Airlines' flight 971 was sending a text message about a bomb, police decided to make no arrests on Monday. 

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies escorted the man from the plane at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Sunday night.

The FBI interviewed the passenger who reported the text message and the accused.  

According to an airport spokesman, the pilots declared an emergency and passengers were asked to exit the plane for inspection. There were no arrests and authorities cleared the plane.
