LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Two toddlers remained hospitalized Saturday afternoon after they nearly drowned in a pool in Lauderdale Lakes, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said the two children were in critical condition.

Jachles also said when paramedics performed CPR the children weren't breathing. One was at Plantation General Hospital and the other was at Broward Health Medical Center.
Paramedics responded to a home with a house pool at the corner of Northwest 39th Street and 45th Avenue. The home's backyard faces Middle River and the property of the Park Lakes Elementary School.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention drownings among children ages 1-4 occur mostly in home swimming pools. From 2012 to 2014, drowning remained the leading cause of death among children in that age group, according to the Florida Health Department.
The American Red Cross recommends parents secure their house pool with a 4-foot-high barrier that isn't easy to access and keep children under active supervision at all times, while staying within arm's reach.
