Use of seat belts saved lives during church van's rollover crash, authorities say

9 injured when Naples church van crashes in Weston

BROWARD, Fla. – Authorities said the use of seat belts saved lives when the driver of a van lost control Saturday, and the van rolled over off Interstate 75's southbound lanes in Weston. 

The driver of the van belonging to the church Pueblo de Dios from Naples was transporting 11 passengers. Mike Jachles, a spokesman for Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, reported 9 were injured.

"All said they had seat belts on. Saved lives," Jachles tweeted. 

The rollover crash was about 13 miles west of Weston on Alligator Alley, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky. 

One of the back tires was damaged. Rescue took the injured to Cleveland Clinic.
