Cyclist hit, killed by bus in Hialeah

Witnesses said cyclist fell into traffic after vehicle exited shopping center

HIALEAH, Fla. – A bicyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon after he was struck by a Miami-Dade County transit bus in Hialeah.

The accident happened at West 49th Street and 10th Avenue about 1:30 p.m.

Witnesses told police the man was riding along 49th Street when it appears he fell into traffic and was hit by the bus.

Witnesses also said a grey-colored vehicle was seen exiting the shopping center in the 1000 block of 49th Street, which may have caused the bicyclist to lose control. 

Police said the driver of that vehicle left the scene and they are interested in questioning them.

Several people were on board the bus at the time, but no other injuries were reported.

At this time, police have not released the identity of the cyclist killed.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
