Dad arrested after kid falls from moving vehicle in Hallandale Beach

Roland Delancy, 25, charged with child neglect, resisting officer without violence

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A father from Miami Gardens is facing several charges after allegedly causing his 3-year-old son to fall from a moving vehicle.

According to the arrest report, Roland Delancy, 25, and his girlfriend were driving Wednesday near the 4200 block of Hallandale Beach Boulevard when they got into a verbal argument. Deputies said Delancy had one of his kids, Ron, on his lap in the front passenger seat with a seat belt.

Deputies said Delancy wanted to make a phone call and attempted to grab a cellphone from his girlfriend, which caused her to swerve the car. The car slowed down and witnesses reported seeing Delancy jump from the brown Pontiac Grand Am, causing the child to fall into the street in the middle of traffic.

The arrest report states the girlfriend picked up her child and drove away. Deputies found her and Delancy later at a home at Southwest 32nd Avenue near South Dixie Highway in Miami.

On Thursday, Delancy told a judge he got caught in the heat of the moment and didn't mean for his young son to fall into the street.

Delancy was ordered to stay away from the 3-year-old but is allowed to have contact with his other six children.

He is charged with child neglect without great bodily harm and resisting an officer without violence.

The Florida Department of Children and Families reports that as of Thursday it has a case file regarding the family via the Broward Sheriff's Office. A hearing is expected as early as Friday to determine who will have custody of 3-year-old Ron.
