MARATHON, Fla. - Four people on a boat in the Florida Keys caught fish that were too short, according to deputies.

A Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputy was on patrol Saturday when he saw a pontoon boat with four people on board.

The deputy approached the boat and asked the people onboad to show him the biggest fish they had caught. He said they showed him a 21-inch Red Grouper.

The deputy then asked to see all the fish they had caught. He said they opened a cooler with six Red Grouper inside.

Only one was legal sized.

John Sala, 61,  Marcel Chiforan, 47, Erin Horvath, 19, and Marian Borz, 28, were cited for possessing undersized Red Grouper. They were also warned for not having a valid fishing license: All four are from Broward County.
