2 workers fall through roof of business in Doral

Victims airlifted to hospital

DORAL, Fla. – Two workers were injured when they fell through the roof of a business Thursday morning in Doral.

The accident occurred at Intermark Foods on Northwest 13th Street.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Kirsten Miller said the workers were moving an air-conditioning unit when a small section of the roof collapsed beneath their feet, sending them falling 20 to 30 feet to the ground below.

"When they made the cut in the roof, the roof gave way and they fell through," Doral police spokesman Rey Valdes said.

Both victims were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami.

One of the victims was identified as a man between 20 and 30 years old, who has worked at Best Roofing for five years.

"There might be some broken bones. We don't know yet, but with a fall like this, you're bound to have some problems," Best Roofing CEO Gregg Wallick said.

The other employee was identified by his sister as Felix Gascot, 37, who she said suffered several broken bones.

"A partial bone fracture, he has ribs fractured. They have him intubated right now, so we're just waiting for the doctors to do another CT to see if they have to do any other procedures," Liznell Gascot said.

The husband and father of two works for RoyalAire Services, which is based in Broward County.

The identity of the roofing company employee has not been released.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the work-related accident.
