HAMPTON, Fla. - The former mayor of a small north Florida town has been sentenced to five years in prison for drug possession and distribution.

A Bradford County judge sentenced former Hampton Mayor Barry Layne Moore on Tuesday. He was convicted by a jury in April.

The 52-year-old was arrested in November after serving as mayor for only two months. He officially resigned in March.

Moore was arrested at a Polk County home after Bradford County Sheriff's Office investigators learned of allegations that he was selling prescription medication. Authorities said an undercover investigation revealed Moore obtained and then sold the narcotic oxycodone.
