Hialeah police sergeant accused of having crack rocks, pipe

HIALEAH, Fla. – A Hialeah police sergeant accused of possessing crack cocaine and a crack pipe has bonded out of jail.

Police arrested Tomas Muñoz early Saturday at the Ernesto Motel, located at 4001 W. Flagler Street. He was charged with one count of felony possession of cocaine and one count of a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an arrest affidavit, police received information that Muñoz, 41, was buying crack cocaine late Friday. Investigators saw him driving to the motel and entering a room with a woman.

City of Miami police officers assisting searched the room about 10 minutes later and found several crack rocks and a crack pipe, according to the arrest affidavit. During the search, Muñoz reportedly said: "It's okay, Hilda, it's okay. Things happen for a reason."

Muñoz has been a Hialeah police officer since 1998. Prior to Saturday's arrest, police said Muñoz was under an Internal Affairs investigation and suspended from all police duties and authority.
