Holiday season hits Las Olas

Christmas decorations go up in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - It's beginning to feel like the holidays on Las Olas.

Workers were setting up Christmas and holiday decorations in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday.

"I see they're starting to hang the stuff on the poles up here, so it's definitely coming," said Frank Caldwell.

A fish exhibit made from recycled plastic bottles was also on display.

"I think it's great. I was told that it's all bottles that were picked up in the ocean," said Paul Pitre.

The 35 feet by 15 feet sculpture was constructed by thousands of bottles.

"We collected over 15,000 bottles locally from runs, from garbage cans, out of the beach, gymnasiums, all over the city, all over South Florida," said Pat Brandano, who designed the exhibit.

"I think it's great. I'm really ready to have the season started," said Heather Levine.

But not everyone was ready with Thanksgiving looming.

"I haven't even had my turkey yet," said one woman.
