Inspectors hit restaurant 7 times this year; Order CJ's closed

Live insects found in restaurant

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - The note on the door says closed for renovations and repair, but an orange sticker placed on the same door says the place was ordered shut to protect the health and safety of the public.

State records show inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation have been to CJ's Drafthouse in Lighthouse Point seven times this year. Restaurants are usually inspected twice a year.

CJ's was ordered shut Tuesday after the inspector noted 44 violations. CJ's was allowed to re-open following an ordered clean up and two re-inspections.

"Dead rodent present, 1 on trap in kitchen under hand wash sink next to reach in cooler across from cook line." 

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found, >50 fresh on inoperable ice machine and hot water heater in front of prep area, approximately 25 fresh behind in use ice tea machine located next to hand wash sink in front of three compartment sink, approximately 35 fresh under three compartments sink, 7 fresh on top of dishwashing machine, approximately 35 fresh on floor by storage shelf with sanitized utensils and pans in dishwashing area, approximately 30 fresh and dry on top of boxes with straws on storage shelf in front of walk-in cooler, approximately 15 fresh on floor in front of employees' restroom, approximately 15 fresh on top of in use reach-in cooler next to inoperable ice machine by rear door, 3 fresh on floor at the bar, 2 fresh on shelf at the bar."

"Evidence of presence of insects, rodents, or other pests, bread crumbs bag observed with gnaw marks on dry storage shelf ( note, no bread crumbs observed in bag)."

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found, >30 inside of inoperable reach in coolers in dishwashing area."

"Live, small flying insects in food preparation area."

"Live, small flying insects in food storage area."

"Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse, raw beef and comminuted meats held at 50°f, operator said they are being held more than 4 hours at the said temperature."
