Man accused of setting fire to ex-girlfriend's home

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - The ex-boyfriend of a woman from Hallandale Beach has been arrested in connection with a fire that was ignited at her home Monday morning.

According to police, Quantriel Scott was in her bedroom with her granddaughter, who was sleeping, when she smelled gasoline.

Scott immediately called police. While on the phone officers said she saw Eddie James Palmer, 53, through one of her windows and soon after large flames coming through the window.

Police said Scott woke up her father, who was sleeping in another room, and got him and her granddaughter out of the apartment.

Officers later arrived to Palmer's home to find an empty red gas container inside and a lighter in Palmer's possession.

Palmer was charged with first-degree arson is being held on $10,000 bond.
