FORT MYERS, Fla. - A man who pleaded guilty to killing a southwest Florida middle school teacher has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Amy Patterson was reported missing in July 2011 when she didn't show up for the first day of school. Her body was found more than a year later on a remote part of Pine Island near the home she shared with her ex-husband, Daniel Proctor.

Proctor faced life in prison before pleading guilty to a murder charge in Patterson's death. Proctor also is serving two life sentences in Alabama for grand theft.

At Proctor's sentencing hearing Monday in Fort Myers, Patterson's brother asked the judge not to accept Proctor's plea deal. Other relatives said they wanted Proctor to stand trial so they could feel some closure in Patterson's death.
