Police say drag racing may have been factor in crash

Three people were killed in a car crash Saturday morning. Police are searching for at least one other car that may have been involved.

MIAMI, Fla. - Police are searching for a car that may have been drag racing with another car that crashed into an SUV and killed three people in Miami on Saturday morning.

It happened on the corner of Flagler Street and SW 58th Avenue.

Investigators say a Toyota Scion traveling westbound swerved into oncoming traffic and struck an SUV head on, crashing into a family of four who were inside. The impact tore the engine off the car.

Jose Serrano and his son German, 15, were killed. His younger brother, Gabriel, 12, and their mother Carmen Orta were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Orta suffered a fractured pelvis, and her surviving son has two fractured legs.

The driver of the Toyota, Alejandro Hernandez, survived, but is in critical condition. His passenger, Ivan Rodriguez, jr. was tossed from the car and died on scene.

The accident also propelled both vehicles into a storefront of a local fruit stand.
