At least 1 member of rap group Migos involved in shooting on I-95

Member of Atlanta-based rap group's security team shot in leg

MIAMI – At least one member of the rap group Migos was involved in a shooting early Friday morning on Interstate 95 that wounded one of their bodyguards.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident involved two vehicles in the southbound lanes of I-95 where the highway meets Interstate 195 in Miami.

A member of Migos' security team, who was riding in a black Mercedes van, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Trooper Joe Sanchez said the Atlanta-based trio was scheduled to perform at Café Iguana in Pembroke Pines on Thursday night. They never took the stage.

"There might have been an altercation at the venue where they were going to perform and maybe that led to this, but right now it's an ongoing investigation," Sanchez said.

The rappers and their entourage left the club bound for their South Beach hotel. As they traveled south near Northwest 62nd Street, a black car pulled up alongside them and someone opened fire.

"There was an exchange of gunfire between both vehicles which resulted in one person struck in the leg and transported to the trauma center this morning," Sanchez said.

The bullets also struck a gas tank, causing a diesel fuel spill. Firefighters were called to contain the spill.

A pair of girls who were with the group refused to tell Local 10 what happened.

"We're looking for a dark vehicle," Sanchez said. "That's all that we have."

Migos was supposed to perform Friday night at Club 54 in Fort Lauderdale, but they canceled their performance.
