Girl, 2, dies after found at bottom of pool in Miami Gardens

Miami Gardens detectives find pool without security fence

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A two-year-old girl died Friday night after she was rescued from the bottom of a house pool in Miami Gardens, according to the Miami Gardens Police Department.

Miami Gardens police Maj. Gary Smith said the girl's mom left to run an errand. She left her under the supervision of her grandmother and an adult brother, according to Smith.

"When the mother returned home, she discovered her daughter at the bottom of the pool," Smith said in a statement.

Lt. Felipe Lay, a spokesman for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, said paramedics responded to a house at 21165 N. Miami Ave., about 7 p.m., and took the girl to Jackson Hospital North.

"The investigation yielded that the pool is an in-ground pool without a security fence," Smith said.

Miami Gardens Detective Henry Schneider was still investigating the girl's death.
