Council to meet over adult business ordinance

Proposed ordinance would restrict sex-related businesses

MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. - The Miami Springs City Council will hold a public hearing Monday for an amendment to an existing ordinance that allows adult-related businesses.

The Miami Herald reports, last week the Council voted 5 to 0 in favor of the amendment.

The proposal would affect the Abraham Tract District and would restrict adult and sex-related businesses.

In the proposal, the city lists evidence to support tighter restrictions and says, "the City Council finds that adult-related businesses require special supervision and regulations to protect and preserve the health, safety and welfare of the employees, patrons and neighbors of the adult-related businesses…"

The city goes on in its proposal to say restrictions would protect citizens from increased crime while preserving the quality of live, property values and character of certain areas.

The 39-page proposal also attempts to define terms such as lap dance, adult motel, and adult business.

The meeting will take place Monday night at Council Chambers City Hall at 201 Westward Drive in Miami Springs.
