Crash shuts down Turnpike's Homestead Extension

FHP: Two injured were ejected from the car

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. ā€“ A crash with injuries shut down the Homestead Extension ofĀ the Florida Turnpike in southwest Miami-Dade Saturday.Ā 

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Jose Sanchez said two people were ejected from a vehicle on theĀ highway, also known as State Road 821.

All of the southbound lanes were blocked near Southwest 248th Street and there were delays all the way up to Southwest 137th Street.

Sanchez said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel used an ambulance to take one of the people injured and a helicopter to rush the other to a nearbyĀ hospital.Ā The roadway was clearĀ by Noon.Ā FHP was investigating the crash.Ā 

According to FHP there was also another crash Saturday near the Homestead Air Reserve Base.Ā
