Miami Heat players open learn and play center in Little Haiti

Opening part of NBA CARES initiative

LITTLE HAITI, Fla. – After coming off of a disappointing loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3, the Miami Heat took some time Wednesday to give back to South Florida.

Heat legends Alonzo Mourning, Tim Hardaway, and current heat players including Rashard Lewis and Mario Chalmers took time away from the court to open the newly renovated Little Haiti Cultural Complex as part of the NBA CARES initiative.

The event was perhaps a welcome distraction for the struggling Chalmers, who had only two points in Game 3, shooting 0-for-5 from the field.

"There's still time to turn things around," said Chalmers.

Times haven't exactly been easy for Adam Silver either, as his first finals as NBA commissioner is clouded with Donald Sterling's on again, off again lawsuit plans.

"I just want it to be over as soon as possible," said Silver, who was also at the opening.

Wednesday's grand opening is the NBA's 898th learn and play center.
