Office to certify Atkins-Grad petition signatures

1,468 signatures were gathered to recall Tamarac commissioner

TAMARAC, Fla. – The Supervisor of Elections Office in Tamarac will begin certifying all of the 1,468 signatures on a petition asking to recall Commissioner Patricia "Patte" Atkins-Grad, according to the Sun Sentinel.

A recall effort was started after Atkins-Grad was acquitted of accepting bribes from two developers in December 2012. Gov. Rick Scott issued an executive order for her to be reinstated weeks after the decision was made.

Since being reinstated to her position, she has been asked by fellow commissioners to step down, but she has refused.

Atkins-Grad is owed $120,000 in back pay. The costs are related to her suspension while she faced charges. The city is also responsible for her defense attorney fees, which haven't been totaled.

Atkins-Grad will have a chance to respond before a recall election.
