OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – A 15-year-old girl was shot as she walked down a street Wednesday night in Opa-Locka, police said.

Opa-Locka Police Chief James Dobson said the girl and four others were walking down Port Said Road near Northwest 135th Street when gunfire erupted about 8:30 p.m.

"We have a group of about five juveniles, ranging from ages from 8 to about 15 years of age, walking in the neighborhood tonight and they heard gunshots," Dobson said. "They all took off running for fear."

The girl was wounded in the arm and buttocks, Dobson said. He described her injuries as not life-threatening. She was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami.

Dobson said the children did not see the gunman, but officers believe the shooter fled on foot.
