Body of Delray Beach police officer killed in motor scooter crash heads home

Police escort body of Christine Braswell from Miami to Lake Worth funeral home

MIAMI – The body of a Delray Beach police officer who died at a Miami hospital after a motor scooter crash last weekend in Key West returned home Tuesday to Palm Beach County.

Officer Christine Braswell died Saturday at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Her body was moved Tuesday from the Miami-Dade County medical examiner's office to a Lake Worth funeral home.

Braswell's body received a police escort along Interstate 95.

Braswell and Officer Bernenda Marc, 25, were on vacation together and riding a motor scooter early Saturday morning when they were struck by another vehicle, Key West police spokeswoman Alyson Crean said.

Marc remains in critical but stable condition at Jackson South Community Hospital.

Braswell was hired by the Delray Beach Police Department in 2005 and was a SWAT sniper.

Delray Beach Police Chief Jeffrey Goldman said in an email to Local 10 News that Braswell's death is "devastating" to his department.

"We will lean on each other and get through this," Goldman wrote. "I am truly heartbroken. Officer Braswell was an amazing person and will be greatly missed."
