Security guard shot in confrontation

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A security guard is in the hospital after a shooting in Miami Gardens, authorities say.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. at the Eagle's Landing Apartment Complex, 18800 NW 27th Avenue.

Police said the guard was approached by three men. The guard was struck one time on his side, according to authorities.

A woman who asked to be identified as Eve spoke with Local 10's Christina Vazquez about the incident.

"All I heard was three gun shots," she said "It was like two -- pow pow -- and then one."

Detectives surveyed the crime scene and said a witness explained that the men approached the guard, started shooting, and then the guard shot back.

"That's crazy. I mean, that's his job. He's there to secure you all, to protect and serve. Why are you shooting at a security guard?" said Eve.

The guard was transported to Ryder Trauma Center with a single gunshot wound.

The three men fled the scene.
