South Florida band overcomes near disaster, wins state title

Somerset Academy wins Florida Class 2A title

TAMPA, Fla. – A South Florida high school marching band that overcame near disaster during a previous competition won the state title over the weekend.

Somerset Academy from Pembroke Pines won the Florida Class 2A marching band title on Saturday.

Somerset first made news last month when a collapsing ladder sent a drum major jumping to safety as he led his band during a competition.

In the video shot at Coral Springs High School, the ladder collapses underneath Ethan Molina, who safely jumps to the ground and continues directing the band.

"I'm the leader of this marching band, have to show I'm still confident and it was still a great performance," said Molina last month.

Molina's cool leadership helped propel the Panthers all the way to the state title.
