Street race leaves 1 dead, 3 others injured

Police search through surveillance video

MIAMI – One person is dead and three others were injured after a drag racing crash, authorities say.

The crash happened in Miami's Allapattah neighborhood around 7 a.m. Saturday on Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest 36th Street.

Investigators said a green Mercedes traveling eastbound on NW 36th Street struck a gold Nissan, making a left turn from NW 17th Avenue to travel westbound on NW 36th Street.

The impact of the crash caused the two vehicles to collide with a Miami-Dade transit bus traveling northbound on NW 17th Avenue.

Police said the driver of the gold Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Mercedes, as well as a passenger on the bus, were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Police looked at red light cameras Saturday morning and said they are now looking for a black Nissan with blue HD lights.

One of the drivers who was racing did not crash and left the scene.

Police are now looking through surveillance video from the bus and businesses in the area to determine who is at fault in the crash.
