Suspect in gas station shooting arrested

Kemar Austin, 29, shot outside Lauderdale Lakes Citgo

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Police in Lauderdale Lakes have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at a gas station on Sunday.

Police say Dwayne Dyer, 27, shot and killed 29-year-old Kemar Austin who was sitting in his parked car outside of a Citgo gas station at 4449 N. State Road 7.

They say Dyer approached Austin and fired several shots before leaving the scene.

According to investigators, Dyer also carjacked a woman in the presence of her three children and attempted to run over a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy.

According to BSO spokesperson Keyla Concepcion, Austin drove 10 blocks after being shot. He crashed his car into a median in the 3400 block of N. State Road 7. Austin was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators now say that robbery may have been the motive for the shooting, since they have not found a connection between the suspect and the victim.
