LAUDERHILL, Fla. - Funeral services have been arranged for a Lauderhill firefighter who died last Thursday after a Labor Day diving accident at Haulover Beach.

Joshua Schwabenbauer, 26, suffered a critical head and spinal cord injury, according to officials.

A viewing was held Sunday evening at The Star of David Funeral Chapel in North Lauderdale. His funeral will take place on Monday at Temple Beth Torah at 1:00 p.m.

The five-year veteran of the Lauderhill Fire Rescue Department was boating at Haulover Beach when the accident happened, said officials.

Schwabenbauer was found in the water by a bystander, and was pulled into a waiting boat. CPR was performed by two off-duty firefighters who happened to be boating in the same area.

He was initially taken to Aventura Medical Center in critical condition, but after was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, a facility that specializes in traumatic injuries.

Schwabenbauer died Thursday morning.
