Woman mauled by pit bulls guarding marijuana grow house

Hydroponics lab discovered in hidden room

MIAMI – A 67-year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after she was mauled by several pit bulls, which police say were guarding a marijuana grow house.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon outside a home at 9032 SW 215 St, in Miami.

Police say the woman was riding her bicycle near the home when the dogs attacked her. She was taken to Kendall Regional where she underwent surgery for her injuries.

When police arrived, they discovered a hydroponics laboratory set up in a secret room connected to the master bedroom.

Authorities say about 17 marijuana plants, with an approximate weight of 20 pounds were confiscated, as well as a loaded firearm that was reported stolen in 2010.

A woman at the home was detained, and another person, Angel Gonzalez, who police say tried jumping over a fence with a bag full of the marijuana plants and the gun was arrested.

Police say two small children were inside the home at the time.
