POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - A former South Florida judge died of natural causes at his home.
Lawrence "Chris" Roberts, 69, was found dead during a welfare check requested by relatives Sept. 4.
The Broward County medical examiner's office listed the cause of death as cardiovascular disease.
Roberts began his career as a probation officer before becoming a prosecutor and later a judge. Roberts was the youngest judge in the state when he was elected to the bench.
He was forced to resign after a drunken-driving incident involving a gun that led to a DUI conviction.
Roberts had most recently worked as a criminal defense attorney. Friend and fellow attorney David Bogenschutz said Roberts had taken on a lighter workload following heart surgery.
