Former North Miami Beach Police Chief inducted into FDLE Hall of Fame

FDLE honors William B. Berger at Florida Capitol

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement honored William B. Berger for his 42 years in public service in Tallahassee

Berger is a four time recipient of the prestigious Law Enforcement Executive of the Year Award. On Saturday, he joined four other beacons of the law enforcement community during the second annual Law Enforcement Officers' Hall of Fame induction ceremony. 

Last year, after the Florida Sheriffs Association, the Florida Police Chiefs Association, the Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police and the State Law Enforcement Chiefs’ Association selected him, Gov. Rick Scott approved. 

His career began in 1974 with the Miami Police Department. From 1989 to 2004, he served as chief of police for North Miami Beach Police Department. He was named chief of police for Palm Bay Police Department in 2004.

Berger also served as president for the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. President Barack Obama appointed him as U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Florida Dec. 19, 2010.
