WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A Palm Beach County man is in custody after he severely beat a homeless man, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

George Gravatt, 41, was arrested Saturday on a charge of aggravated battery after he attacked a man who was asleep in his tent behind a convenience store in West Palm Beach, deputies said.

The victim said he was beaten with a pipe. He suffered cuts, bruises and a possible fracture of his left forearm.

Deputies said Gravatt, who is also homeless, admitted to the beating because of an "ongoing personal dispute."

Gravatt has been arrested 17 times in Palm Beach County since 1997, including nine times for assault or battery.

He was being held on $15,000 bond.
