Gulliver Prep softball coach found dead days after being reported missing

Hector Torres, 52, reported missing last Tuesday

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Gulliver Preparatory School softball coach has been found dead days after he was reported missing.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic news that Hector Torres, beloved faculty member and one of our softball coaches, has passed away," Head of Schools Frank Steel said in a statement on Monday. "For more than 20 years, Hector was a valued member of our Gulliver community. His contributions on and off the field have left a lasting impact on so many of us.

"On behalf of our entire Gulliver community, we extend our most heartfelt condolences to Hector's family and friends, and the many students, families, teachers, colleagues and alumni whose lives he touched."

Miami-Dade police said Torres, 52, was reported missing last Tuesday.

He was last seen at work in the 14600 block of Southwest 87th Court and was driving a black 2002 GMC Yukon, authorities said.

Police said Torres did not contact family or friends during the time he was missing.

Authorities have not released any details about his death.
