NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Several Jewish temples and schools throughout the state have received a faxed threat that makes a bomb threat and requests money as a ransom.
North Miami Beach police said the letters, which come from an untraceable number from overseas, is a hoax.
Police said they brought in Homeland Security and the FBI to investigate, and it was those organizations that determined the fax was a hoax.
The letter says, "Good morning. I’ll be brief. I installed several explosives in the building. If you do not send the amount of $25,000 by May 31st I will blow this whole block. If you contact the police, I’ll know. I also have access to your computers and email addresses. Go to the nearest Western Union agency and send the amount to (redacted address). The passport number (redacted number) It’s a (redacted) passport. The city that money will be withdraw (redacted) USA.
"Do as I say and no one will get hurt. PS: I repeat, if you try to contact police, I will known (sic)."
Sunny Isles and Coral Gables locations have received the faxed letters as well, police said.
