Husband, wife rescued after boat sinks off Haulover Inlet

Couple overcome by rough waves on new boat

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Two boaters were rescued Friday after their boat started to sink off Haulover Inlet.

Jim and Lily Swingly of Hallandale Beach were spending the day on their new boat when they encountered some rough waves and began taking on water.

"The waves were too big," Lily Swingly told Local 10 News.

Sky 10 was overhead as a tow boat used a tow line to keep the 27-foot boat, named Jim & Lily, from sinking to the bottom.

Miami Beach Ocean Rescue saved the couple and brought them to shore. They were not injured.

"You got no time to think," Lily Swingly said.

The couple's belongings from the boat could be seen scattered throughout the water.
