NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - The Kardashian sisters received a key to the City of North Miami on Monday.
North Miami Mayor Andre Pierre greeted Kim and Kourtney as they walked past a throng of paparazzi.
"Thank you so much for coming to our city," said Pierre.
Pierre rolled out the red carpet for the reality show sisters, who were 45 minutes late to a standing room only ceremony presenting them the key to the city. The presentation was held in the Council Chambers of North Miami City Hall.
"We are just so excited that everyone has welcomed us with open arms," said Kim.
The Kardashians are currently living in a multi-million dollar waterfront mansion in North Miami's San Souci neighborhood and filming their reality show Kim and Kourtney Take Miami.
They ended up on the dead end street after people living in the Miami neighborhood where they originally wanted to film said the sisters weren't welcome.
Pierre appeared a tad heartbroken to learn his city was Kim's second choice.
"I was told that they came here because they wanted to be in the capital of the film industry," said Pierre.
"Well, the community that they were in in Miami didn't want them there so they had to find someplace else to go to," said Local 10's Roger Lohse.
"Well, we welcome them," replied Pierre.
When asked about giving the sisters a key to the city, Pierre defended them.
"Is there any concern that this tarnishes the honor of receiving the key to the city?" said Lohse.
"Let me ask the question that I think that should be asked, why does America is in love with them?" answered Pierre.
"I don't know, are you in love with them?" asked Lohse.
"Oh yeah, yes I do, and I think the City of North Miami does," said Pierre.
Neighbors living by the Kardashians said the filming has been fine so far.
