Liberty City residents outraged over fatal shooting outside market

Police continue search for gunman after grandmother killed, 2 injured

MIAMI – Liberty City residents are outraged over the senseless shooting of a grandmother and two others outside a market.

Linda Grant, 62, was killed Monday evening when a gunman opened fire outside King Brothers Market at 1304 N.W. 62nd Street.

"She had family that loved her. She got kids, grandchildren," said Wanda McMillan.

Linda Grant, 62, was killed when a gunman opened fire outside a Liberty City market.

Friends and neighbors spent Tuesday leaving teddy bears, flowers and messages on the sidewalk outside the market.

Grant, known by most as "Hey Honey" or "Baby Girl," lived just a few blocks away from the market. A pink wreath adorned her front door Tuesday.

"She was a nice wonderful lady, man. All we're doing is paying our respects to her, you know what I'm saying?" said a man who identified himself as Al.

Grant was one of three people hit by bullets Monday night when, according to police, a man walked up to the crowd standing in front of the market with a gun in each hand and just started shooting.

So far, police have not been able to provide a description of the gunman but surveillance cameras outside the business may provide the information the streets have not yet been willing to give up.

"Why the community won't come out and speak? One day it might be you, it might be your child, one day it might be your momma," said Sandrika Grant.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami police.
