1 injured when car crashes in to restaurant

Woman drives into Havana's Cuban Cuisine in Sunrise

SUNRISE, Fla. – One man was injured when a car crashed into a restaurant in Sunrise.

A woman drove her Nissan Murano in to the front of Havana's Cuban Cuisine, located at 10035 Sunset Strip in Sunrise, about 11:44 a.m. Wednesday.

Video showed Edwin Perez cleaning the bar when he heard the crash.

"My first reaction, like I said, you know, (was) just get away," he said. "I saw a car coming. My first reaction was, you know, like, jump."

Workers then called Michael Mellion, the owner.

"Well, it didn't come out very straight so I asked him again, 'What did you say?'" said Mellion, "because he told me somebody ran in to the restaurant, and it was inconceivably to me that they literally took their automobile and ran in to the restaurant."

Perez was released from the hospital after receiving stitches.

"So lucky. Thank God I'm still alive," said Perez.

"With the help of the landlord here, we should be, God willing, open tomorrow," said Mellion.

The driver was cited by police for failure to use due care. The age of the driver was not immediately known.
