1 shot, killed by Miami police

MIAMI – One man was shot and killed by police just after 2 p.m. near Downtown Miami on Saturday.

A spokesman with the Miami Police Department said two men were fighting and a MPD officer shot at one of the men. The incident happened near the west end of the MacArthur Causeway and Biscayne Boulevard, near the Miami Herald building.

"They attempted to separate them, there was some sort of confrontation," Det. Willie Moreno with the Miami Police Department said.

Police said they do not know why the men were fighting and that that is part of their investigation. They could not say if any of the men involved were armed.

The second man in the fight was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Police have not identified the men.

The ramp to Biscayne Boulevard from the MacArthur was closed and traffic is being diverted to the next exit.
