Police investigating deadly shooting on streets of Northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police in Miami-Dade County are investigating a deadly shooting.

According to authorities, Miami-Dade police officers responded to the area of Northwest 96th Street and 20th Avenue at approximately 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a gunshot detection system reporting numerous shots fired.

After arriving, officers found an adult male who had been shot, and rescue workers pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.

Minutes later, police said officers responded to a residence on the 2000 block of Northwest 96th Street where they found a second man suffering from gunshot wounds.

That person was taken to an area hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue workers.

Authorities said after a preliminary investigation they learned an unknown subject opened fire, striking the victims at the original scene. The surviving victim was able to flee and seek safety at the residents he was found at, police said.

Homicide detectives will continue their investigation.
