Florida health officials confirmed 8,002 additional cases of COVID-19 on Monday and another 137 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.
It’s the smallest daily increase of cases since Dec. 27, when the state reported 7,391 new cases.
The state has now verified 1,579,281 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and 24,274 resident deaths, according to the department of health.
Another 383 non-residents have died within the state, and there have been at least 68,170 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.
Deaths verified in the past day include 22 in Miami-Dade County, 14 in Broward County and one in Palm Beach County.

At least 1,031,795 vaccines have been administered in the Florida, with 93,258 people in the state getting both shots that are needed. Miami-Dade has had 119,528 vaccinations, Broward has had 92,980 and Monroe 3,947, according to the latest numbers posted Monday.
The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 9.19%.
