Florida health officials confirmed 11,914 additional cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and another 142 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.
With that, the state passed 1.6 million cases and inched closer to 25,000 deaths a day after the United States went over 400,000 deaths from the pandemic.

Florida has now verified 1,601,011 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 24,578 resident deaths, according to the department of health.
Another 387 non-residents have died within the state, and there have been at least 68,932 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.
Deaths verified in the past day include eight in Miami-Dade County, eight in Broward County and two in Palm Beach County.

At least 1,122,405 vaccines have been administered in Florida, with 111,188 people in the state getting both shots that are needed. Miami-Dade has had 130,156 vaccinations, Broward has had 100,090 and Monroe 4,481, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.
The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 10.73%, breaking a streak of four days below 10%.
