Florida passes 25,000 coronavirus deaths, adding 13,719 cases and 272 fatalities Friday

Florida has now lost more than 25,000 residents to the coronavirus pandemic.

State health officials confirmed 13,719 additional cases of COVID-19 on Friday and another 272 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.

Florida has now verified 1,627,603 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 25,011 resident deaths, according to the department of health.

Another 394 non-residents have died within the state, and there have been at least 69,735 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.

Deaths verified in the past day include 34 in Miami-Dade County, seven in Broward County and 17 in Palm Beach County.

At least 1,249,804 vaccines have been administered in Florida, with 139,345 people in the state getting both shots that are needed. Miami-Dade has had 143,257 vaccinations, Broward has had 114,093 and Monroe 5,088, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.

The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 12.37%, the highest in over two weeks.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 97.7 million. There have been more than 2 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has reported 24.6 million confirmed cases and has had more than 411,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
