Florida adds 6,979 coronavirus cases and 197 more resident deaths

Florida health officials confirmed 6,979 additional cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and another 197 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.

The state has now verified 1,744,619 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 27,019 resident deaths, according to the department of health.

Another 453 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19, and there have been at least 73,266 resident hospitalizations attributed to the virus in the state since the start of the outbreak.

Deaths verified in the past day include 12 in Miami-Dade County, six in Broward County, 13 in Palm Beach County and one in Monroe County.

At least 1,788,326 vaccines have been administered in Florida, with 421,315 people in the state getting both shots that are needed. Miami-Dade has had 182,783 vaccinations, Broward has had 148,755 and Monroe 7,018, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.

The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 7.77%.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 104.1 million. There have been more than 2.2 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed over 26.4 million cases and has had more than 448,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
