Florida adds 5,065 new COVID-19 cases and 92 resident deaths Thursday

Florida’s health department confirmed 5,065 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and 92 more state resident deaths as a result of the virus.

The state has now verified 1,962,651 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 32,040 resident deaths, according to the latest health department data.

Another 599 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19.

Deaths verified in the past day include eight in Broward County and seven in Palm Beach County.

There have been 81,763 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state.

At least 3,895,656 people have received vaccines in Florida, with 2,129,547 people in the state fully vaccinated. Miami-Dade has had 469,082 people receive shots, Broward has had 340,687 and Monroe 15,056, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.

According to the CDC, nearly 700 cases of COVID-19 variants have been verified in Florida, most of any state. That includes at least 689 cases of the U.K. variant, five of the Brazilian variant and one case of the variant initially identified in South Africa.

The statewide positivity rate for yesterday’s testing was 5%.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is over 118 million. There have been more than 2.6 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed over 29 million cases and has had more than 529,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
