Florida reports 5,750 new COVID-19 cases, 159 resident deaths Friday

Over 3 million fully vaccinated by state

Florida health officials confirmed 5,750 new COVID-19 cases Friday and 159 more resident deaths as a result of the virus.

The state has now verified 2,033,179 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 33,116 resident deaths, according to the latest health department data.

Another 640 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19.

Coronavirus-related deaths reported in the past day include 25 in Miami-Dade County and nine in Palm Beach County.

There have been 84,406 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state.

At least 5,475,209 people have received vaccines in Florida, with 3,004,403 people in the state fully vaccinated.

Miami-Dade has had 687,305 people receive shots, Broward has had 477,714, Monroe 21,244 and Palm Beach County 406,486, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.

According to the CDC, more than 1,000 cases of COVID-19 variants have been confirmed in Florida, most of any state. That includes at least 1,042 cases of the U.K. variant, 23 of the Brazilian variant and 10 cases of the variant initially identified in South Africa.

The statewide positivity rate for yesterday’s testing was 5.69%.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is over 125.7 million. There have been more than 2.7 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed over 30 million cases and has had more than 547,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
