Miami Gardens family loses home in fire

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A Miami Gardens home was deemed a total loss after a fire erupted inside Friday morning.

“I just woke up and it was smoking everywhere,” Barbara McCall said.

McCall told Local 10 News that her son rushed into her room around 6 a.m. to tell her there was a fire and everyone needed to get out.

“It was scary, all the smoke. You know, that’s what will kill you a lot of times is the smoke,” she said.

A total of five people were inside the home at the time –three adults and a 4-year-old and 5-year-old child.

Sky 10 was over the home on Northwest Second Court and 191st Street as a ladder truck was extended out and smoke was creeping out of the home.

Maynard McCall said his nephew had just returned home from an asphalt job and went to the bathroom. He then came out and found flames in the bedroom.

Fire investigators say it appears the fire started on the mattress.

ATF officials spent hours looking through the home that is a total loss.

Family members were seen outside emotional and salvaging anything they could from inside their home.

The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
