Florida adds 5,178 cases of COVID-19, 72 resident deaths Wednesday

State passes 35,000 resident deaths

Florida health officials reported an increase of 5,178 COVID-19 cases Wednesday and 72 more resident deaths connected to the virus.

The state has now verified 2,222,546 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began.

There have been 35,030 resident deaths, according to the latest health department data. Another 692 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19.

Coronavirus-related deaths reported in the past day include 10 in Miami-Dade County, nine in Broward County and five in Palm Beach County.

There have been 90,059 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state.

At least 8,684,024 people have received COVID-19 vaccines in Florida, with 5,985,537 people in the state fully vaccinated.

The statewide positivity rate for yesterday’s testing was 5.76%, the lowest rate of the past two weeks. Miami-Dade and Broward also had their lowest positivity rates in at least two weeks.

MONROE

Cases: 6,867 (+15)

Deaths: 49 (unchanged)

% of eligible population fully vaccinated: 35.7%

PALM BEACH

Cases: 142,456 (+403)

Deaths: 2,760 (+5)

Yesterday’s positivity: 5.87%

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is over 148 million. There have been more than 3.1 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed over 32 million cases and has had more than 573,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
