Florida reports 5,937 new COVID-19 cases from holiday weekend

95 more deaths since Friday

Florida has now reported 2,326,755 cases of COVID-19, according to the latest numbers released by the state’s health department Tuesday.

The state did not release updated data over the long Memorial Day holiday weekend. On Friday, Florida reported a total of 2,320,818 cases since the start of the outbreak, meaning there was an increase of 5,937 cases since.

There have now been 36,869 resident deaths connected to COVID-19, up from 36,774 on Friday.

Another 740 non-residents have died in the state with COVID, according to the latest health department data.

There have been 95,210 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state.

At least 10,344,328 people have received COVID-19 vaccines in Florida, with 8,322,901 people in the state fully vaccinated.

The statewide positivity rate for yesterday’s testing was 3.89%.

Latest totals

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is over 170 million. There have been more than 3.5 million deaths attributed to the pandemic globally, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has confirmed over 33 million cases and has had more than 594,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world.
