Police: Woman killed in domestic-related shooting in Florida City

Family members say victim’s son is who pulled the trigger

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – A woman was killed in a domestic-related shooting early Tuesday morning in Florida City, authorities confirmed.

According to Miami-Dade Police Detective Argemis Colome, Florida City police officers responded to the 200 block of Southwest 344th Street around 4:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a woman being shot.

Colome said officers arrived at the scene to find a Black woman in her 40s suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Local 10 News crew went to the scene later in the morning as a bus stop in the area was blocked off with police tape.

The victim was identified to Local 10 by relatives as Loretha Bruno, who they said was in her late 40s.

“She came from Haiti,” Bruno’s cousin, Guddeursse Gaspard, said. “She’s a hard worker, she loves her kids so much. She worked for those kids and it’s devastating.”

A source told Local 10 News that Bruno was sitting at the bus stop when someone came up and shot her.

Her family says she was headed to work in the Keys.

“There’s no words that you can say just, ‘Why? Why?’” Gaspard said. “She loved all her family. Every time she would see me, she’d be like, ‘I love you cuz.’”

According to family members, Bruno’s son, Andrew Ellosaint, was taken into custody for the shooting.

Those same family members told Local 10 News they had been trying to get him to see someone to help his mental health, but to no avail.

Colome said the shooting was domestic-related, but did not confirm who the suspect is or whether that person has been arrested.

The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau has taken over the investigation.
