Police: School lockdown lifted as search for stolen-car suspect prompted Code Red

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – An elementary school was on a precautionary lockdown Thursday afternoon as Miami-Dade police searched the area for a suspect who was one of 4 people in a stolen car in the area.

According to Miami-Dade police, Northside District detectives began following a Toyota Corolla that was reported stolen. Police said they spotted the vehicle in the area of NW 119th Street and NW 27th Avenue not far from Golden Glades Elementary School.

Police said the four people in the car bailed out of the vehicle. Three were taken into custody, but one remains at large.

The lockdown, according to Miami-Dade County Public Schools Police, was a code red. At 4:50 p.m., a spokesperson for Miami-Dade County Public Schools said the lockdown had been lifted.
